Domestic violence aimed at women is the norm in Kyrgyzstan. Upwards of 40% of marriages are forced upon unwilling women who are kidnapped and held hostage until they comply. Many of these marriages end in abuse, rape and other violence.

Hands of Hope provides a safe shelter and other services to these victims of domestic violence. They train leaders to fight such abuse and advocate for women. Learn more at handsofhopehandicrafts.com.

This unique product from Central Asia comes from families that design and create items inspired by their local traditions. Many of the Kyrgyz products use felted wool that was traditionally used by the nomadic tribes to cover their yurts (portable, tent-like homes) and to make rugs, hats, and slippers for warmth. Today the Kyrgyz women use felt for home accessories, jewelry, ornaments, and dolls.  Flower is 3" in diameter. Handcrafted by Hands of Hope.
